bread

My new goal for this summer is going to be to bake bread. I wish Minnesota had better bread, but all the bread that you can buy at Target or Cub are just terrible. I can definately tell the difference after tasting La Farine's rustic french or Acme's baguette. California, I miss your food! So, to pursue my goal, I checked out the Bread Baker's Apprentice and was set to bake the french bread from that book. But it turns out that all the recipes in that book take a very long time and you have to make a pre fermentee (a pre-dough?) before making the actual baguette. It's summer, I'm too lazy. Then, I remembered a New York Times article from November, a recipe for no-knead bread. This article caused quite a stir amongst cooking and foodie circles, as the blogs I frequent can attest to. I was really happy to have remembered this recipe! I looked online and found the article, and watched the you-tube video of the "minimalist" making it. It looked super easy, and beautiful. And he said that an eight year old can do it. I get mistaken for an eight year old all the time! It's perfect. So now, I'm all set to bake the bread. Wish me luck... especially since last time I tried to bake bread I managed instead to create two brownish lumpy rocks.
